Shruthi-1 Metal Cases
  • Finished the cases for Shruthi’s.

    Video of SMR4 in action.

    Vintage stuff:
    Black matte Powder Paint
    Wooden (Oak) sides
    White screen print

I was thinking if there is any interest in this kind of enclosures?
Not for the slim ones like on the picture but for the KIT that MI is selling- square buttons, on board connectors and thicker profile.

I hope to keep the price near 50-60 EUR, depends on amount of interest.

Should I design the enclosure for MI Kit?

  • Very well done!

  • wow. Looks like it’s from a shop! Are you from Holland?

  • Thanks You all for good feedback!! No, I’m from Estonia.

  • Hi Adrian,

There I was busy publicising your excellent casework in another thread here and then I find you’re here already

    Welcome!

    Martin

  • They look defintely awesome ! Nice work…

  • i am interested by one case, with wood sides + the buttons (switch in white, knobs in blue)

  • With such a case, I could say:
    Minu Shruti on koige ilusam!

[is my estonian still correct?] :)

  • Looking great. I would probably be interested in one of those fitting the mi kit. :)

  • btw considering the “tilt my shruti” fury, could you add an option to your kit, with “triangular” shaped wood sides?
Or an option to be able to stack several shrutis together with only 2 wood sides on the extreme sides?
Last thing would be to enable people to change the case without changing LEDs position, then your led holes should be adapted for light tunnels [led tunnels? don’t know the correct name] well you know what I mean.

    :)

  • Very nice! +1 for me.

I kinda like the buttons you used and the case as is.

  • Geishaballs your estonian is correct :)

The modifications with sides can be done. Just have to discuss with carpenter.

Also modifications in laser cutting are acceptable. You can choose the LED hole. It can be square, round or any shape you would like. I have tested with flat top 5x5mm, 5mm and 5x2mm LED’s.
Also there is option to cut custom holes, symbols or text. It just affects the price a little bit.

There are some things that aren’t able to modify:
The bendings and the screenprint. For these processes is the setup cost too big. The VanDaal logo wont be on Your case. Could add MI logo there instead.

About the LED’s I think that if you want a good looking result, then You need to use flat top LED’s.
If You want to change Your Shruthi inside the case, then just swap the filter board.

@julienvoirin and @dkMode I’m thinking to make the case for KIT. Square buttons and thicker case.
My thoughts now are that You will follow instructions written by Oliver and assemble your Shruthi, then put it into the case and case closed.

This slim case with round buttons and panel mounted connectors is really tight fit and some modifications needs to be done to fit it together. For now the slim version is only available fully assembled. The price is as usual 300EUR.

  • Wow super nice!

I am interested in a case for the Kit!

    Let us know when!

  • Please contact me if you are going to sell these cases; I would like one.

  • very nice case! depending on its price, i would be interested in one or two.

  • You should do ambika cases as well. Just saying.

  • You should do ambika cases as well. Just repeting.

  • Nice to see that there is interest.

For now I can say that there will be cases.

Dont wait the cases be ready in next week.
I like to take no prepayment, therefore I need to sell the ready made instruments. I have one SMR4, LP2-DLy and Polivoks in stock.

I need to buy one KIT, assemble it and design case according to that.
Make proto and verify the design.
    Then make first patch.

@tb323 I have one Anushri waiting for case and I’m thinking about Ambika also.

For now I can’t say the first patch quantity, so who has interest, let me know here.
Hope to see more names here, to make the price lower.

  • @Adrian: Nice. I’m interested! :-)

  • LP2-Dly is on his way to USA.

  • “LP2-Dly is on his way to USA.”

And I can’t wait to get it! :)

  • I would be interested in a kit for sure

  • One Polivoks now looking for owner.

  • Wow.. its a very nice case. Great :)

  • You had to post this the day I buy someone else’s…..lol :-(

  • That’s seriously good looking.

  • Polivoks purchased by toddADSR.

  • i’m really looking forward to these metal cases.

will they come in different colors?

i’d probably get a black one and a blue one.

  • hm, wait, your metal-encased shruthis use different buttons than the regular shruthi kits!

or are they the same buttons just with different caps?

  • I’m going to design new type of metal cases for square buttons. On the picture you’ll see the slim Shruthi, where the connectors are panel mounted. The cases for sale will be litle bit thicker and with square buttons. Hope to get the proto ready this week.

  • There will be different colors.
More about that, when the cases are ready for Powder painting.

  • excellent.

i’ll probably also want a whitenone – for the 4pm.

  • @Adrian
Lovely cases … but no anonymity re the sale? This is Mutaholics Anonymous! ;-)

    regards

  • is it possible to buy that case? )

  • Had to change the sheet metal company.
    Drawings sent to new supplier.
They asked today what is the amount of prototypes, so things are getting closer to get the protos ready.
Cant say the date. If something happens, I’ll let you all know.

  • Time has passed and new protos arrived today. Some minor changes needs to be done.
Made some quick lo-fi pics introduce the new set of cases.
Cases have no color, no screen print, no fastening screws and glowing end cheeks.

The standard Shruthi case will be expandable.

There will be double end cheek.

You can create different mix of extensions.
In example CVin extension. With input sockets and potentiometers.

    Sound designer extension.

    Or maybe a programmer extension.

  • Brilliant!

  • Mine is longer…

  • @ Adrian – Nice work! Bravo :-)

  • Yes, very nice work!

    Martin

  • Looks lovely.

  • Case color and screen print sample files.

The new case will look lik the slim, only bit thicker and more user friendly.
It will have LED tunnels, so no modifications needs to be done to insert your Shruthi into enclosure.
Just add 4 spacers and fasten Shruthi to bottom plate with 4 screws. Place the bottom plate and fasten it with 6 screws and ready it is.
    All fastening parts are included.

In first patch there will be 4 colors. Black, yellow, red and white. Powder paint with screen print.

    Specs:
1mm bended steel sheet covered with powder paint and marked with screen print. End cheek’s are lacquered oak.

In future there will be also extension enclosures.
CVin, SDE, Programmer and thinking to make MidiALF extension also.

Price will be around 50, it depends on the quantity.
Shipping in Europe 10 EUR, outside 12 EUR. Shipping with tracking.

If you are interested about the case, then let me know.

  • The LED holes look like they are made for 5mm LEDs?!

  • One yellow case please !

  • are the color schemes fixed yet?
does the white one have to be blue on white – or could it perhaps be grey on white?

and will there be a white-on-polysix-blue version later on for us ssm shruthiists? :)

  • One black case for me ;)

  • mic.w I have to check what colors the powder painter and screen printer has.
If someone has special color needs, then let me know. I’ll look what can be done.

  • ok, i’ll have two cases. i’ll pm you about my color preferences. :)

  • one black case for me please!
    nice work!

  • wow i’m really tempted to get a white one ! :)

  • +1 black shruthi case please
+1 programmer extension as shown – if available

  • Ambika on the way ?

  • Picard – In this run are only Shruthi eclosures.
Lamouette/rck – Ambika proto will be manufactured with this Shruthi run.

  • i’d be up for a black one + cv extension.

  • yeahhhhhh, one for me !

  • Just some questions:
-I take it this one requires a 25mm shaft for the encoder?
-What sort of clearance does it allow for the LEDS-ie would you need different light pipes when adapting a Shruthi where the LEDs have been put in using 5mm spacers?

  • MidiAlf would be awesome.

  • gwaidan
-The encoder is what was included with KIT. It was 25mm, so there is no need for big hole.
In slim cases I used 20mm encoder. There I used potentiometer with fastening screw.
-the distance from PCB top to the top of the enclosure is 13mm and the hole diameter is 4,5 before paint. If you use 5mm spacers, then the LED’s wont reach the top, but there will be room for thin light pipe.
VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS tunnels are included. Thinnest one from that type is 0.2``

  • Received all info for cost’s and made calculations.
The price for case is 53 EUR
    It includes:
Metal case- 1mm steel with powder paint and screen print.
LED pipes- 8 mounted LED pipes.
Wooden cheeks- Oak covered with lacquer.
Fastening parts- 5mm spacers, M3 screws, washers, wood screws.

    Shipped with tracking:
    Europe 10 EUR
    Outside Europe 12 EUR

Ordering will be open until end of this week (2. June)

  • I’d like 2 white/blue

  • 1 black Shruthi case for me please. Thanks!

  • One black case for me too, thank you!

  • how much for an unpainted (raw metal) case?

  • the Delorean edition :)

  • One white case for me, please!

  • tdel1295- The raw case will start to rust, because the material isn’t stainless steel.
One opportunity is to use powder lacquer and black screen print or silver powder paint.
The price will stay the same.

  • I’d like 1 black case please. Thanks!

  • Do you want us to explicitly turn a pre-order into an order ?

In any case, a yellow case please (as pre-ordered).

  • Yes, I’ll send PayPal invoice when everything is ready to ship.
    Hopefully week 24.

  • Adrian,

Do you have any more of these. I’m fixing one for a friend and some of the screenprinting scratched off.

  • I’d like 1 black and 1 white case please

  • I’d like one white case please.

  • One white for me please :)

  • Hi Adrian, just a quick question-how much extra would international shipping be for addtional cases-is it an extra 12 EUR for each additional case in the same order?

  • qp- don’t have those slim ones. This red one is one of a kind.
Shipping cost for 2 cases is 14 EUR in Europe 18 EUR outside of Europe.

  • Made the sheet metal order.
Ordered some extra, so there are 5 more cases available in this run.

  • Can I put myself down for an extra Black one please :)

  • Black case for me too please!!! Thanks for ordering extra ;)

  • Adrian, so, this red one that I have here is the only one? Thats a bummer. The white print just scraped right off.

Can you put me down for a new one in red then?

  • Do we need to put some finish (varnish, lacquer) on the cases ? This would not be a problem, but it would be good to know.

  • New cases will be printed in another company. The quality there is better.

  • OK, sounds good !

  • Do you still have spare case ?
If so I would be interested in one black Case …

  • Yes, there are few extra.

  • So just add one black for me please

  • HUROLURA sent PM for info request.
  • PM answered

  • Metal parts cut and bent.
Going to bring them tomorrow to painter.

  • there will be ambika protos so ? Impressed to see the pics ! o/

  • I speeded up this order and going to make separate order for Ambika and few more protos.
I thinking to make proto order on monday, so end of the next week you may see the pics.

  • Cases now in screen print.
They will print them in beginning of next week.

  • cool ! i’m impatient ;)

  • One question: What about airflow inside the metal cases?

  • There are went holes in bottom and back.

  • Fine! I thought so, but you only showed front, side and top. :-)

  • All parts arrived today.
Need to drill the fastening holes into cheeks and install light pipes.
    Some pictures of upper plates.
